The LDS vision
The Legal Data Space is based on a unique open governance model, inspired by Gaia-X, bringing together three colleges:
- Legal professions: lawyers, legal experts, notaries, representative institutions.
- Academics & associations: laboratories, universities, think tanks, and European partners.
- Technology: startups, publishers, and industrial partners in the AI and data sector.
This governance is led by Droit.org — the reference body for standardization and regulation of the Rulebook — and SAS Legal Data Space, which manages the infrastructure.
The Rulebook is the legal and technical charter of the LDS, governing the circulation, reuse, and standardization of legal data.
Developed with Ekitia, it translates law into machine-readable language (Law is Code), ensuring native compliance with the DGA, Data Act, GDPR, and AI Act.
The goal: automatable, auditable, and sovereign governance.
LDS innovates with economic governance based on tokenization:
- Action Tokens: represent the rights of Droit.org contributors in the Legal Data Space SAS.
- Legal Tokens: utility tokens to value contributions in terms of data, AI, or expertise.
This system promotes the equitable redistribution of value among producers, developers, and users, while supporting a model of sustainable digital commons.
